About the Highway Inn, Burford

A bit about the business:

The Highway originally dates back to 1480. Prior to April 2006 the Highway hadn’t traded as an Inn for 16 years, but as a needlecraft shop and a B&B.

The building was lovingly restored and reopened as an Inn by the previous owners, prior to the Arnell Family, Jane, Dan & Michelle taking over in October 2013.

The Inn received its' first recognised rating in May 2008 from Visit Britain and was rated 4 star. In 2008, Alastair Sawday visited and awarded the Inn with a recommendation in both the British Hotels and Inns, and Pubs and Inns Guide Books.

In 2009, following a secret inspection from the Michelin guide a recommendation was awarded, and the hotel has been a recommendation in the Good Pub Guide as well as other major publications every year.

At the Highway Inn we strive to offer:-

  • A friendly family welcome and a home away from home

  • Quality at affordable prices

A Bit about Us:

Michelle and Dan have flown all the way from New Zealand to take on the hotel, having lived in Auckland for three years to spend time with Michelle’s family. Dan’s passion has always been in hospitality, graduating at University of Surrey in Guildford with honours in Hotel & Catering Management back in the year 2000, and working in various roles in Hotel management with the Hilton Group, including senior positions in Brussels, Belgium (where his french comes in handy), and Melbourne, Australia. Michelle and Dan met in Twickenham, South West London, where they moved in together as flatmates, and they now have Little Jack, who you may see roaming around the hotel with a cheeky grin on his face.

Jane (Dan’s mother) has had experience running a hotel in the Highlands of Scotland, and a Self Catering business in Somerset, she has a huge passion for the industry and loves meeting new people.

The Family live at the back of the hotel, so if they are not out the front serving customers, they are only a whisper away and always keen to meet all of their guests and ensure that all their needs are met.
